Honolulu Rail Transit will connect East Kapolei with the Honolulu International Airport , downtown Honolulu and the Ala Moana Shopping Center. Eventually it will go to the University of Hawaii In Manoa. The 20 mile elevated line will be free from the traffic lanes below and allow transit oriented development around the rail line. It will be a state of the art electric steel wheels on steel rails driverless and able to transport 8000 people per hour in each direction . Thisproject is as much about planned affordable muti family housing as it is about transporting people. Kiewit Infrastructure West will build the first 6.5 mile segment.
